One Tuckered Girl

I am tired tonight. We woke up around 2am to loud lightning and thunder. There was one crackler that scared the hoohaw out of us, it felt like it was right in the backyard. That was the closest I have ever heard lightning. Not much sleep and a long bike ride to work (down hill/flat) and home (uphill/semi-flat) on a hot day really tuckered out this girl. I do feel good that I made it farther home today, before I had to get off and push my bike the rest of the way up. *cheer* C and K-Dog came to meet me along the way, so I had company on the walk up.

No illustrating for me tonight. I think I will go plunk down and doodle in my sketchbook while I watch re-runs of The Office, or maybe 30 Rock, no, no, The Office. Okay, I'm rambling on a bit more than normal anyways :)

Biking

I have started to bike to work this week. Yaya! It's a 10-15 minute drive to work, and about a 30 minute ride on bike, roughly 4.4 miles one-way. I am starting out by riding every other day. I am loving it! It is so great getting exercise while I get to and from work, not to mention, helping the environment and saving money on gas. Man, I am such a multi-tasking junkie. :)

Bear Sticker

I drew this guy today on my "to do" list. Since I liked him so much, I decided to get him on the computer and make him into a sticker. Isn't he sweet?

Herb Cuts

What a nice, relaxing weekend. I read like a mad woman yesterday and finished my book before bed. Yay!

I have been slacking on cutting back the mint and other herbs. Today, I got a down to business and clipped back all the overgrown herbs. It was a much needed "herb cut". Now, I have a bunch of herbs that I will have to dry for future use. I need to look up some recipes to use the mint in. Any suggestions?

Peppermint, parsley, spearmint, chocolate mint, orange mint, salad burnet, and Ricola mint.

Salad Burnet is such a cool looking plant, that I had to take a macro shot to share. It is all about the leaves for me on plants, and these sweet, tiny leaves take the cake. The picture above shows the clusters of leaves, before they start to fan out. I love running them over the palm of my hand.

Oh, Deer!

The other day when I got home from work, I found most of my favorite plants eaten down to nubs or twigs by the local deer. This is my first year to really get into outdoor planting, so to find my freshly planted beauties abused like this, I was crushed. So I quickly did a bit of research (got to love the internet!) and bought some spray to deter them from returning, as well as, buying lots of plants that they don't like - Yarrow, Anise Hyssop, Lady's Mantle. I am hopeful this will stop them from making my pretty plants into an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet.

Curious

I thought I would share another couple of photos I took on a walk.

A bench and a pair of boots so neatly left behind. There was no one around when I came across these.

I wonder what was happening in this person's life.

I hope everyone is ready for a nice weekend! I know I am. I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

What if...

This is one of those pictures that makes me think of Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss. As a kid, and even now, whenever I see something like this I always wonder "what if..." there is a little world unknown to us thriving away in something so small and wonderful.

What a great book and I really liked the movie that just came out for it.

Up & All Around

I haven't been too inspired to work on illustrations the last week or two. It isn't "being in a funk", so much as, I have been more interested in gardening, movie watching, baking, cooking, reading, and just overall taking a break from sitting at the computer. So today I am sharing another photo from my walk.

It is so wonderful to stand or lay under a tree and look up.

Ring the bell!

I took a walk today during my break - we are having wonderful weather right now - and got some photos I thought worthy of sharing.

This is the doorbell on the back entrance of a nearby shop.

Happy Father's Day

Today was a nice relaxing day at our house. Since I didn't go to Seattle for the weekend, I dinked around the house and made some strawberry lemonade, talked on the phone with family and friends, read my book and blogs, and fertilized all my house plants, as well as the out door plants. It was a fantastic day - I love lazy Sundays - I firmly believe they were created to be a free "get out of chores" day.

This is a new bloom on my tiny Fuchsia plant. Isn't it so sweet and pretty?

Weekend in Seattle

I am going to see an old friend in Seattle this weekend, so no posts from me till my return on Sunday. I will hopefully have some cool pictures to share. This is very spur of the moment, so I am frantically trying to find if there are any MUST see fabric / cute stuff shops we can hit.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
----
Update: The trip was cancelled. We scheduled it in a few weeks instead. Sooo, I might just be posting after all! I do like that I have more time to plan and map out the shops I must go to.

Illustration Friday - Forgotten

A quick one for this topic. This was one of the first ideas that popped into my mind when I saw the topic. I have forgotten my freshly made lunch and coffee in the morning, I always remember right about as I am pulling up at work. I am always so bummed and wonder if they are just as disappointed.

Thanks for visiting my blog and for any comments. :)

Quick Draw - Lemon

I didn't spend much time on the computer yesterday. but I wanted to do a quick illustration to post - I had lemons on the brain.

Stamp Doodling

Made the bear head stamp today and the bunny yesterday. I messed up on the bunny face so I just removed it all and I actually kind of like that because I can draw in whatever style face I want.

New Baking Book

I got this book, King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking, earlier this week and we got to try the first recipe today. Yum!

You can find the details and recipe posted on my cooking site for Whole Grain Pancake Mix.

This is a great recipe - I have had other whole wheat pancakes and this just blows them off the skillet. Try it!

Graduation Card

I made this card for my niece who graduated this year. I'm so proud of her.

I never used to be a person that liked pink, I love it now, and with brown or yellow I love it even more!

Log and Flowers

Taken at the dog park.

Sheesh, I am really getting unlucky this year with getting sick. I am feeling a bit better today and hoping it was just a 24 hour thing.

Since I didn't get much time to work on personal projects today, I dug through some of my macro photos that I didn't post that I still want to.

Movie of the Day

I had today off from work and I wasn't really inspired to do anything on the computer today. So I watched Lars and the Real Girl - it is a very unique and sweet movie. Fantastic acting - I really like Ryan Gosling and love Patricia Clarkson.
