Blooms + Buds

What a week! I got "the cold" and was pretty busy at work which is a very good thing. Not the cold part, but the being busy. Even though I missed a day and a half of work, I was still very happy to have a new weekend to catch up on things.

My latest focus has been learning about shade-loving plants so that we can get a nice privacy shrub line going between us and the "ugh" neighbors. This morning I went out and took photos to send to my dad (gardener extraordinaire) so he can give some suggestions on how to do that properly and have organization to it all. I have no idea about all the details for planting, pruning, retaining, etc. My dad offered and I am jumping at the chance to get some help.

While I was outside today I saw a few things that really make me happy...

These sweet white blooms on a new Rhododendron that we planted along our driveway last year.

And these little buds on surrounding trees. When they grow in they make all the neighbors disappear! Magical :)

Half Empty

Awww!... the weekend is coming to an end. I started dreading it last night about 8pm roughly. I usually start reminding myself that the weekend is half way over around 5ish on Saturday. I know, I know, I should look at it like "Oh! I have a whole Sunday to dink around the house!". Nope, not me. I am a very "half empty" type of girl when it comes to the weekend. I'm greedy. What can I say? I like my weekends!

This was a nice and relaxing weekend. I am working on some illustration ideas and had a moment where I just had to bust out a red dog. Do you have characters that you draw on everything? Where you are working on thumbnail ideas and just not finding it so instead you doodle one of your favorite characters? This dog, in various positions has been tagging all my sketch book pages along with birds and bunnies.

Easter + Spring Clipart

I recently was asked to be a designer on mygrafico.com and after a few weeks I finally got my first clipart set designed and uploaded. It was a bit of a process - creating my store page, license agreements, preparing the file formats (jpeg, png, eps), but the next will go much smoother I am sure. And it sure feels good to have it all set up to go.

I think this will be good exposure and experience for me. I really enjoyed making this set. They make me happy! :)

After work stroll

After many weeks of very wet and cold days we got a few days of sunny and cold. Which I definitely prefer - the color of wet brown and gray can get sooo tiresome. It was nice to be able to get home after work, grab the camera, dog, sweetie and walk around to get some photos on a sunny day. Though I didn't see much to photo, but I came across a tree with these tiny pine cones.

And these cattails aka corndog grass were pretty cool. I had no idea they were actually called corndog grass, but it is definitely what I think of every time I see them. There were a few rowdy frogs chatting it up while I was taking photos. I so wish I could have gotten a picture of one of them. Tweet Follow @kellymedina

It's only one hour, right? But still it throws me all out of whack and bums me out to have my weekend shortened. I keep looking at the clock and being surprised at how fast the day is flying by. But I remind myself that it means lots of good things like more light in the evening when I leave work, I can start biking again, and soon there will be more green life rather than brown debris. Yep, things are looking up and if my inner clock has to groan about it for a few days who cares.. Spring is all the closer :) yippy!

I wanted to make this little reminder for myself so I don't forget to get out of my head, away from the computer, look around me and enjoy the big and small.

Wow, it has been a bit since I posted. The week flew by!

I finally had a little time today to finish these cute bunnies. It started with just one bunny, then it had to multiply (you know how bunnies are) then sat as a black and white line drawing for a few weeks. Today I opened the file wondering what it was and decided it was time to add some of my favorite colors. Ta da!

Also, does anyone know how you set sizing of images in Flickr? When I posted this from Flickr it was way big and half not visible on the page, I had to resize it in blogger. I haven't had a chance to dig into Flickr yet.
