Our Little Feathered Friends

These are our regular visitors and they are so small, round and make the sweetest little chirps. When they are all gossiping in the morning it starts to sound like they are laughing "wah, wah, wah" all together. It always cracks me up.

They have a very sweet song that I love hearing in the morning "chick-a-dee-dee-dee". A little vain, but it works.

(Steller's Jay)

Steller's Jay are very loud when they get to chirping. I almost can't call it a chirp it is more a piercing call like "shaack, shaack, shaack", "shooka, shooka".

We had a few Woodpeckers too but I wasn't able to get photos of them.... yet!

Making Deodorant

I finally ordered the Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter from my local Mountain Rose Herbs shop, everything else I had on hand to make this deodorant from Angry Chicken's blog. I wanted to give it a try and see what I thought. So far I like it and the reward of making my own – knowing that all ingredients are natural – really makes me happy.

After using this for a while I am happy with it. The only thing I would suggest for anyone wanting to try it is to be very liberal with the essential oil you choose. I did about 15-20 drops and the orange smell is not very noticeable. For my next batch I will try 30 drops and see what I think. But use your best judgement.

Determined Visitors

Woke up this morning to find a scold of jays out at the bird feeders. They were a bit oversized to use the feeders properly. So they were improvising. One Steller's Jay was quite determined. The challenge was even more so, because I have the pole "greased" up with some vaseline to keep the squirrels from climbing it. It was amusing and impressive. I had to share.

These birds have a rather annoying section in their song - it sounds like someone rubbing wood on a metal grater and it is loud! At What Bird you can look up all sorts of birds to find out facts or birds you might not recognize. Definitely a must view for bird lovers or even just the bird curious. Tweet Follow @kellymedina
