Popsicle Birthday Invitation

Spring is coming and I'm definitely feeling it. I got out in the yard and did some much needed pruning and trimming before spring hits. I want those shrubs to thicken! I also started moving my sewing machine, work table, fabric, and accessories into another part of the house. I've had it all in my main office and it's getting cramped. Too much. It was definitely time to do something about it. Yay!

I wanted to get a new summer time party invitation up this weekend too. Done, yay!

After all that hard work, I would've loved a fruity popsicle.

Latin Beats for Kids Illustration

(sorry for the copyright but a girl's got to try and protect her art, right?)

Something new to share! I had so much fun working on this illustration last week. After meeting with my boss to discuss the art direction I was set free to do what I wanted. Thankfully the client loved it. Woohoo and phew! :)


I thought I would share a bit of my process for jobs like this. I started with a few thumbnails to rough out my concept (sorry, I forgot to scan the other rough to show). My roughs are always so tiny. The image above is the thumbnail I chose to work from for the final piece, it's about 2" x 2". I always do a little research for some inspiration/education, plug in my earphones and hunch over the little square and let blossoming ideas pour out. Then a quick scan and I begin the digital drawing and coloring. Then "Ta-Da!" I got a nice illustration to be proud of.

Father's Day Cards

As I promised, here are the Father's Day cards I designed for Tiny Prints. Until I get a large enough collection of cards I don't have a Featured Designer page. For most of my cards you can search "Kelly Medina Studios" to see what I have created for them, but these aren't showing up in that search. I'm hoping they get it fixed soon so I can link to my growing collection.



I always get a happy kick when I see they use one of my designs for their promotional site photos. That is my golfing Father's Day card looking pretty great in that layout!

Motown State of Mind Project

I was contacted about a month ago to create artwork for an event in Detroit. They had seen the Motown piece I did for the Eugene Concert Choir, a few years ago in this post and wanted something in the same style/feel. I was super fortunate to be asked to participate in a Valetine's Day Greeting Card Challenge. It was a lot of work with tight deadlines, but one of the best projects I've worked on. Designing greeting cards, stationery, stickers, and party packages are my dream projects. Yay!
