Ooooh, you are so pretty

This is a single bloom that a 3 year old Rhody (or maybe an Azalea) bloomed early. I brought it in and put it in some water and just adored how it looked. Out came the camera!

Bee + Squirrel - April Walk pt 3

Oh yah, I have even more I wanted to share. Another favorite thing of mine is watching little critters go about there business.

These flowers were like an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet for the bees on Sunday.

You go bee! Get that 10th helping of pollen!

After work stroll

After many weeks of very wet and cold days we got a few days of sunny and cold. Which I definitely prefer - the color of wet brown and gray can get sooo tiresome. It was nice to be able to get home after work, grab the camera, dog, sweetie and walk around to get some photos on a sunny day. Though I didn't see much to photo, but I came across a tree with these tiny pine cones.

And these cattails aka corndog grass were pretty cool. I had no idea they were actually called corndog grass, but it is definitely what I think of every time I see them. There were a few rowdy frogs chatting it up while I was taking photos. I so wish I could have gotten a picture of one of them. Tweet Follow @kellymedina

Strawberries Inspire

With the summer coming to an end I am starting to get sad about all the local Farmer's Market and stands closing in October. This was my first year to really get to know where and what I could buy locally. I picked up these strawberries yesterday and they are so sweet, in both the adorable tiny size and taste. While I was playing around with the image, I sampled some colors and fell in love with the red and green I got. I believe I have just found some color inspiration for the holiday cards I need to start cracking on.

Also, I am setting up a good photo "area" to achieve better lighting in my photos. I wrapped up several pieces of cardboard in white butcher paper to provide back + side lighting which really seems to help. I think it will be pretty helpful as the days start getting darker. Stepping into September

It was another great weekend. The extra day off was a great bonus. I did have work project that I worked on over the weekend, but I was still able to get some nice outside time. The weather has been absolutely perfect here. Saturday we went for a walk...

This early turning tree stopped me in my tracks. So beautiful with the blue sky and clouds behind it.

As we continued our walk, we came across this busy little bird. He kept fluttering in an out of the branches and teasing me while I tried to catch a photo. Finally he landed and posed for me with his triumphant claim of a seed from the branches. I love his head markings.

I love taking macro shots of tree trunks. This is two trees, but it almost looks like one trunk.

I rushed up to see this pretty little red poppy (I think that's what it is) and went crazy over the dead stems with their seed pods and hairy stems. I'm going to go back for a few more to put in a vase.
A couple weekends we went around our neighborhood and picked blackberries for jam, which turned out fantastic and is so good on Whole Grain Pancakes. This weekend the blackberries were really ripe all over the place, so we got to snack on them while we walked.

On our way we stopped by a wild growing mint plant and spotted a baby deer, who hid away right as I was done fumbling with my camera to take a shot. Figures! But you can see the little rump as it walked away.

The Big and Little

We went out for a hike at a local park, it was a wonderful day.

I thought this tree was really cool, it looks like it has furry arms growing out of it that don't quite match the trunk. They were reaching out for me!

I love leaning on a tree, looking up and taking a photo - this turned out much better than I thought.

What can I say, I love moss on sleeping logs and the dark and light contrasts (in the corners) add to this photo.

This red berry jumped out at me while I was walking down the trail, just asking me to take a picture of it.

I found this sweet heart-shaped treasure on the trail.

Super Saturday

What a great Saturday I had. We rode our bikes across town to see The Incredible Hulk (I'm a junkie for Marvel or DC comics/movies) at the $1.50 movie theater today. The ride is 17 miles round-trip.

I must say it was very entertaining and seemed to be much better than the previous. I didn't see the first one because, well, it looked pretty awful, and then I heard it was awful, so never bothered.

My bike. I've added a few gadgets recently and it is styling - by the way, I am fighting the urge to call my bike a "her", as I do not want anyone reading this to think I'm a nut! (but it is a she, ha!) I got that nice cushy seat, the back rack to strap my bag to, oh and a little mirror on my helmet. I am still getting used to using it, it can be a little disorienting at first, and I also worry that I will wreck trying to figure out exactly what is behind me.

On the way back home, we stopped at the Saturday Market, it was way packed and we didn't stay long (no pictures). I prefer the lighter crowds on the week days, that are set aside for just farmer vending. We also swung by this community garden just to drool at all the wonderful veggies people are growing.

St. John's Wort

On my morning bike rides to work, I am constantly noticing (even recognizing!) different plants in yards, parks, and any other landscaping I pass and getting inspired. I've been thinking we need some nice ground cover in our yard and I keep seeing this St. John's Wort all over the place. It is hardy plant, flexible with sun or shade, and fits into the natural woodsy yard that we have. I love the yellow flowers, aren't they great? Tweet Follow @kellymedina

Farmer's Market

I went to the Farmer's Market today and got all sorts of great veggies and some honey. Being that C and I want to have our own chunk of land to grow our own food someday, this was very inspiring and it just felt great to buy locally. The prices were quite comparable to conventional produce at the stores. It was a lot of fun to fill up my re-usable grocery bag.
